Crochet Items from Handspun Yarn
Here's a little girl's poncho I spun from this pattern. I dyed the wool with Easter egg dyes. The colors are actually a little brighter than they look in the picture (and the poncho is much cuter than it looks). I'm just not much of a photographer. I used an F hook and chained 81 to start.

And here's a little girl's dress I made last summer:

The bodice is spun from kid mohair, the skirt from yearling mohair. Both yarns are two-ply and about 14 WPI. I found the pattern in a library book from the 70s.
I love spinning mohair, but only from batts. People who say they hate spinning mohair have probably only spun it from professionally prepared roving, which makes it slippery and unrewarding to spin. Spinning from batts keeps the resulting yarn soft and fluffy, and it's a million times easier to spin. If you can get your hands on raw mohair (particularly kid or yearling mohair) but don't have a drum carder, try flick carding it and spinning from the locks.
