Works in Progress

The mohair bag is finished; you can see it on the Knit page.

Here's the update on my sweater/tunic, which I believe I started back in August.  I'm on my third ball of yarn.  I've divided the stitches onto straight needles and I'm almost done working the back up to the shoulder. katesweater.jpg (15282 bytes)

This one's going to be for myself, a sweater/tunic that I hope to finish in time for winter '05, although if last winter is anything to go by I won't need it.  I purchased a raw Border Leicester fleece for the project and carded it on a hand-cranked drum carder, running each batt through the drum twice.  The picture shows one of the batts.   The wool has not been scoured and I can tell you that cleaning up the drum carder was a lengthy job.  When spinning the wool I also have to stop every so often and clean out the wheel's orifice.  But it's worth the effort.  The resulting two-ply yarn (13 WPI) is beautiful, perfectly balanced, and after two soaks in hot water (no soap) clean but still full of lanolin.  I've knitted a swatch on size 8 needles that you can see in the photo.  I still have half the fleece to spin and I have to work out the pattern, which I'll post along with the end result this fall.
